Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny came to Mason's school so he wanted to get a picture with him. I happened to be at his school that day and his teacher mentioned that Mason had took his picture and wasn't even scared. I didn't see the bunny but she said he was actually really creepy looking. They decided not to use the head that came with the costume because they thought it would scare the children!!!! When he was dropped off at my school this afternoon I pulled out his picture and could not believe how awful the picture was. As the teachers came into the office to finish off the day I showed it to everyone and we all died laughing. Evediently I wasn't the only one that thought it was awful. There was a letter in his folder saying if you arn't satisfied with the picture send it back and there will be retakes with the bunny with a head piece!
I of course am going to keep it. This one needs to be sent to that website with scary home pictures. I can't remember what the name of that website is. Does anyone know?

Cowtown 5k

Our 3rd Annual cowtown 5k race. It was much warmer this year- thank goodness. You never know what kind of weather you will get in February. We had a great time and ran just about the whole race.

miracle league

We are so excited to find a baseball league just for special needs kids. Its called the Miracle League and the Texas Rangers sponsor it. Mason had his first practice on Friday. He loved it! He was so excited to be going to his own "basketball practice" (his words). Poor Mason has spent many of years going to all of Haydens and Callies games and just this last year he has been asking me when we can go to his games. Finally I found this league when I was talking to another mom at the special olympics last year. We have to drive to Arlington (which is 30 minutes away) but it will be worth it. Mason's first game is next week along with Callie and Haydens games all at the same time and of course Shawn in working. Luckily Hayden can go with the neighbor but I'll have to just drop Callie off!

Callie's spring break-Oh the joy of having a teenager!!! My spring break consisted of chauffeuring her and her friends around all week long. I was so ready to go back to work!

Pinewood derby

Masons 1st Pinewood derby. Mason wanted a Mario and Luigi car so we cut the wood in half and had two cars. We raced Luigi and he lost everytime. Mason seemed to be ok with it until he so kindly went up to another little boy whose car would just stop right in the middle of the track and he said to him, "you lost". After I scolded him for being rude, I said you lost too and then he just broke down in tears.

I am having so much fun learning how to crochet. The internet is wonderful! I have found so many patterns for free. I've got a long list from the kids of the things that they want me to make. Well this school year has kept us all busy with sports, school, work, church so here is a recap of what we have been doing lately.
Mason started out in his 3rd grade program as a weed. He did so good and even was the announcer.

Callie is in 8th grade now and playing another season of volleyball. She really enjoys it and does a great job. (hopefully good enough to get a scholorship someday!)

Hayden turned 11 this fall and bridged out of cub scouts. He is in the 5th grade and moved up to intermediate school. I'm all alone at my school now.

Hayden played another season of soccer. This season was a great one. They ended up being the champions in their age group.

Halloween- Mario and Luigi. Mason is actually supposed to be Mario since he was Luigi last year so I bought the Mario custome and just assumed I should get the next size up since last year. We didn't try it on until that day and it was huge! I talked Hayden into to wearing it and Mason wear Luigi. I thought it was adorable but Hayden was extremely embarrased and ended up staying in the car at the trunk or treat all night.

This is the reason I have time to update my blog. We have had 4 snow days this week! We are all getting bored with cabin fever. I won't leave the house, there is no way I am driving anywhere, the roads are pure ice! So I have gotten alot of things done around the house.

This is what else I have been doing with my time.
I have been practicing crocheting and I am really enjoying it. So far I have just been making hats, they seem to be pretty easy. A friend from work asked me to try and make a yo gabba gabba hat for her daughters 1st birthday. I looked forever on the internet for a pattern but couldn't find a free one so I just winged it. I was pretty proud of myself considering I just started crocheting. So all these new babies being born- this is probably what you'll get from me!

The other craft I have been making is embroidery key fobs. This is what all our teachers and family members got for Christmas this year. I really would love to start an Etsy shop online selling these. They are so easy to make. I actually have sold a few and have an order for 7 more this week. I am so exciting. My goal is to save all the money I make from the keychains and then someday buy myself a new embroidery machine. I would have to sell over 400 to buy the machine I want!

summer project

summer is almost over for me. I have to go back to work on Monday and we did absolutely nothing this whole summer. My poor kids are so bored! I however have been very busy with all my projects that I wanted to work on during the 6 weeks that I was off. My biggest project was painting all the cabinets in my house. I started with the bathrooms and then I tackled the kitchen. I just finished painting but now that I have painted the cabinets I need to get new countertops (because mine now do not match with the new paint), I need to paint the wall and get a backsplash and then of course I will need all new appliances! I won't show you the whole kitchen because it looks so unfinished- everything is white. So here is just a preview of what I did.

We have added yet another dog to our family- Sammy the chihuahua. Sammy is dog #10 for our family. Shawn has repeatedly brought home abandanded dogs left at Petsmart and I have repeatedly gotten rid of them. I am not a dog lover of messes and chewed up furniture and dog hair everywhere but I don't get much of a say when there is 4 against 1. Everything seems to be going ok so far but it has only been one day. Wish me luck, I am not excited for the potty training.

special olympics

Mason participated for the first time in special olympics with his team from our school district. It started early Friday morning and ended Saturday afternoon. We spent most of our time on Friday just sitting around waiting. Mason did his preliminary race and then there was opening ceremonies where we walked in the parade and had a special guest jump out of a helicopter into the field with the American flag hanging from his prosthetic legs. And of course the lighting of the torch. We had a wonderful time and will continue to do it every year.

During the preliminaries we almost didn't think Mason would end up running the race. He was all ready to run and then they fired off the gun. Mason hates loud noises so he just stood there with his hands over his ears not moving. They spent several minutes trying to talk him into running. He eventually did so we spent the rest of the day talking to him about it so he would be ready for the real thing.

Mason was so cute when he was racing. He was smiling the whole time, having a hard time staying in his lane but as he got close to the finish line he started skipping because he knew he was the winner!

Mason was very excited to win the gold medal. He has been talking about winning the gold for months now. After he got his gold medal he tried to give them back the bronze from his softball throw. He said he didn't want the bronze anymore just the gold.

We are so proud of Mason! He has come a long way these past few years. He has started talking and even teases and plays with other children. It is so exciting to see him progress. He is doing so well in school and has started going to regular ed class for part of the day. While talking to other mothers of special needs kids I found out they have a Miracle League in Arlington for special needs kids(baseball). I can't wait to get him involved this fall!

Easter 2010

Easter this year was very relaxed. We enjoyed our time at home watching General Conference on T.V. In the evening we went over to Brandon and Sherie's house for our family dinner and the kids had a little Easter egg hunt.

rocket ships

In cub scouts this year they decided to build rocket ships instead of the traditional pinewood derby cars. At first we were really disappointed. The boys really like to race their cars and plus this was Masons first year in scouts but once the day came to launch the rockets they had a blast. Each scout got to launch theirs twice. I ended up making the rocket ships by myself and I was a little worried about whether or not they would launch. Haydens turned out fine but Masons had a little problem, but they both shot up in the air really far and the boys had a great time. When we left Mason asked me when we could do rocket ships again.

Over spring break we went to visit Dane and Christie in Arkansas. We had a great time with them hanging out. Christie and I worked on some crafts while the kids played video games practically the whole time. We did go do a few things- went and saw Diary of a Whimpy kid, bowling and ice skating. While we were bowling it started snowing. The kids stayed up late that night building a fort in the back yard until midnight. I got very few pictures because I dropped my camera while running in the Cowtown 5k so I have been using my phone to take pictures now.

I made the curtains before we left for Arkansas and I made the wreaths at Christies house.

Mason and I ran the Tannahill 5K (the indermediate schools race). Hayden was supposed to run it with me since this will be the school he will go to next year but he decided that morning he didn't want to run. So I recruited Mason. Mason was very excited to run. He wanted to win the race so he ran way ahead of me and I had hard time catching up with him. Luckily some of the kids up ahead stopped him and made him wait for me.

Hayden and I ran the Cowtown kids 5k back in February. We ran it in 15 minutes thinking we did really well this year compared to last year but we come to find out the police blocked off the streets wrong and we only did 1.8 miles.

We ended up getting a foot of snow yesterday! Thursday we woke up and there was probably and inch or two outside and the kids were so mad that we had to go to school- we didn't even have a delay. As the morning went by it kept snowing so they ended up letting us at noon and while we were finishing up at work(trying to get all the kids home)Hayden and some other students (principals kids)built a snow man. They had a great time in the snow also having a snowball fight. Then we made it home and Hayden and his best friend Trae spent several hours outside playing. They are planning on building a fort since we are out today. Mason won't have anything to do with the snow! I can't say I blame him. Its beautiful but I like to be warm and dry!

On the 1st Saturday of each month Home Depot has a kids workshop where you can bring your child to build something. I take Mason every month and he loves it. Callie had a slumber party Friday night and her and her friends thought it would be fun to go and do it too. (although I think they are too old but they let them anyway).

Christmas was spent here at home in Fort Worth. It was just our family this year and then we had Robert (my brother) and Casey and family over for Christmas dinner. This year it actually snowed on Christmas Eve which was very excited as we don't usually get snow. The kids played outside for a few minutes but ended up getting to cold. We aren't used to the cold weather. I think Buffy (our dog) liked the snow the best. She was so excited jumping around the snow and eating it.

It is will deepest sorrow that I regret to tell all of you that my oldest child- Callie Rae is now old enough to be in the Young Womens program at church! Where did the time go? I know everyone says this and everyone out there not here yet will say this- Where did the time go? How did this happen so fast! Before you know it they will be gone, out of the house and married and I will be an OLD grandma! It felt like yesterday I was living at home with my parents going to my own YW activities. As you can read I am feeling very sorry for myself because what this all really means is I am getting old!
So here are her pictures from her first young womens activity where they had "messy olympics". Callie was very shy being with all these teenagery girls so she didn't get into all the fun. Hopefully as time goes on she will feel more comfortable with everyone. .

She had a great idea to have a scavenger hunt at the mall where we divided into three groups and each group had twenty dollars to try and buy/get as many items that start with each letter of the alphabet. The group that came home with all items and most money left won. They had a great time. Callie planned the whole thing, made the invitations and sent them out before I even saw them- on her invit she stated her "wish list" was money! I hope parents didn't think I did it! So thats what she got and the next day we went out and she bought herself a new phone.

summer project

I had many projects planned for my summer and got a few done but the one I am most proud of is this. My SIL found this idea on the internet and showed it to me and I had to make it since I had the same stairwell with nothing on it. Basically it is molding and rosettes that I hammered into the wall and then painted the inside of the frame and then hung rod iron pictures in it.
Thanks to all those who voted for my burgundy kitchen. Shawn finally agreed to it unwillingly but now I am having my doubts because I have decided I want to paint my cabinets a darker color and it would but just a really dark blob kitchen so its back to square one (not that I will have anytime to paint since I am back to work). - Projects for Thanksgiving Break, I am already making a list!

Ok, I have been wanting to have an accent wall in my kitchen and I want it to be burgundy to bring that color in from our living room into the kitchen and I cannot get Shawn to agree with it so I need everyones opinion.

When you walk in our house you go straight into the living room-

and then our kitchen is off to the right so the two rooms flow together.

We have a long bar area that divides the rooms. I painted the living room the color- burnt almond and right now the kitchen is just the plain light cream color that the whole house was when we moved in. My idea is to bring the burnt almond into the kitchen (the two side walls) and then have the main wall (the one with all the cabinets, stove, fridge) an accent color- burgundy and Shawn thinks it should stay just the same plain cream color. Please vote on the poll and I won't be upset if you vote for Shawn!

As I was adding new songs onto my playlist I thought I would find theme songs to old TV sitcoms that I enjoyed. As a child I always would sing to them along with all the commercials too. It was so fun to listen to these old theme songs from tv shows I loved as a child, they bring back so many memories! It makes me so happy to hear songs I love. Somedays I just love to get out my karoake and sing until my throat hurts. I love to sing even though I am not very good.

Ok, here is my tribute to some of my favorite TV sitcoms back when I was a kid. Family Ties (alltime favorite!!!) I loved Alex P. Keaton in Family Ties and his sister Mallory too- in fact if I had two more kids my boy would be Keaton and my girl would be Mallory.

FAMILY TIES

Growing Pains- I think I liked the show so much because of Kirk Cameron. Wasn't he the cutest! Everybody was in love with him back then and we all had our teeny bopper magazine pin ups hanging in our rooms.

And my last tribute to classic TV- Welcome Back Kotter. What a great show! I was to young to be in love with John Travolta but I thought Arnold Horshack was the funniest character on the show. He was the nerd who always snorted when he laughed. I would always call my brother horshack as an insult.

Crazy Busy Weekend

School is almost out and it seems we cram all the fun the last weeks of school. We started out on Thursday going on a field trip to the AGI gymnastics in Arlington and I came along to help out. It was lots of fun for the kids and we were all exhausted after it was over.

Friday Hayden had field day all day and Mason was honored for good character- trustworthy so they got to sit at special tables with their parents at lunch and got a medal and certificate.

Friday night we had a sleepover for the 3rd and 4th graders. They were promised that they would have one if the school ended up being Exemplary on the TAKS tests this year and they did it! Here in Texas once you start 3rd grade up until 12th the students have to take these standardized tests and basically that is how the schools are rated so this year we had over 90% of the students pass which ranked us exemplary. It started at 7 pm and they had dinner and then they could do several different things until bedtime at 11pm. There was karaoke (which I was in charge of), hair and nail salon, video games, bounce houses, and crafts. The kids along with me had a great time. I didn't get a whole lot of pictures of Hayden because I was in the Karaoke room but I did video this cute little boy who pretty much stayed in the karaoke room with me and sang the whole time. He was hilarious! At first we couldn't tell if he was for real- check it out for yourselves.

Saturday we had Callies last volleyball game and they ended up this season in 1st Place. They got their trophy's but the coach took them back because she promised to get their names engraved on them if they got 1st place.

After the game we rushed home, we made treats and got everything ready to host a baby shower for my sister in law- Nikki. She lives in Lewisville so we had it at her house. It was lots of fun and my mother in law drove from Tyler to come to it and help out. Notice the diaper cake I made and the blanket, bibs, and burp cloth that I embroidered. Next week is another sister in laws shower- lots of babies this year! Next Saturday will be the 5th baby shower in 2 weeks!!! I've have been doing alot of blankets lately.

Paint job

We have lived here in our house for 8 years now in Fort Worth, Texas. This is our first house and I think we will probably be here for a while so I am having a blast remodeling and redecorating. We bought the house new but after 3 kids and buying a cookie cutter house we have a lot of new plans to fix up our house like an HGTV home. (Shawn & I's favorite channel). I am in the process of redoing just about everything from buying new furniture to a new roof (due to hail storm),replacing baseboards, doors, light fixtures and flooring. The house was in great need of a new paint job so we hired a friend of ours to do it and these are the before and after pictures. I sure hope I don't have to do this every eight years. Although I'm sure it will take me that long to get everything done I want to do!

After a long time decided what to do with my hair I finally bite the bullet and paid for a good haircut. I was talking to the ladies at work and told them it was time to get my haircut, that I wanted it shorter, with some color and that I would just go to the haircuttery place by Albertsons and they freaked out and said I needed to find a good hairdresser so my friend Amy called her hairdresser in WEATHERFORD and made an appointment for me. She told her all about my hair and how I need help to find a good hairstyle. We spent the whole week looking up new hairstlyes on the internet. This one isn't the one I picked but I like it and it is easy to do.

Callie and Hayden have started their spring sports. Callie is playing volleyball for the first time. She usually plays softball and loves it and does very well. Last spring she played softball and after the season was over she was asked to play on the all-star team and enjoyed that, other than crazy parents way to involved in winning(thats another story). Our local sports association added in volleyball this spring along with softball so she had to choose. Callie has played for intermurals at school and enjoyed it so after much consideration she choose volleyball. She is doing very well and their team- The Grizzlys are in 1st place right now.

Hayden is in probably his 10th season of soccer. Hayden has tried just about every sport and I think we finally found his nitch. I have tried very hard to keep Hayden busy with different sports/activities outside home and school. If it would up to him he would stay at home and play video games with friends all day long. This season he has the position of full back and he loves it. He is very proud of himself for all of his blocks. He is very quick to tell us that he is the best player on the team!

Open House

Mason's school had its open house so I took Mason to go see his teachers and classroom. We first stopped by Ms. Monroes room. Ms. Monroe was Masons teacher last year and the year before. This year she moved to Resource. We were so sad to not have her as Masons teacher. She is a wonderful teacher and was so good to Mason. They went on lots of field trips and she took tons on pictures. At the end of the year (both years) she made a slide show to music on DVD and gave each of her students one. Mason loves it so much that he will watch it constantly and sometimes even sleeps with the DVDS. It always brings tears to my eyes when I watch the videos because of how wonderful they are to my son. I feel so grateful to have such amazing teachers who have helped Mason become the wonderful child he is. I owe alot to his teachers. He also has a great new teacher this year- Mrs. Welsh. We did't get a picture of her because she unfortuately wasn't at the open house because she was sick. Mrs. Welsh is also an amazing speical ed teacher. She has come up with some wonderful ideas to help Mason stay on task and follow directions that I have even incorpurated them at home. And then there is Ms. O'Connell who is the 1st grade teacher he comes and sees for about 45 minutes a day for social studies that way he can get some socialization with the regular ed. class. He has been with her for two years and loves her. He will move up to 2nd grade next year so unless she moves up with him he will get a new regular ed teacher (Im going to have to request Callies old teacher). We are so blessed to have Mason in our family. When he was diagnosed with Autism it was very hard for us to deal with it and not knowing what the future would hold for our son. His milestones were very lengthy in time and we wondered if it would ever happen. He didn't walk until his was 14 months (the other 2 kids were nine months), he wasn't potty trained until his was four and he didn't start talking until about six years old and now at seven he is talking in sentences and carrying conversations with us. We are so grateful to our Heavenly Father for sending us Mason. At first you are devistated as a parent to discover that your child has a disability and don't know how you will go forward having to deal with such a life long sentence but I now realize that the Lord is trustig me with this special child and I feel honored that He has choosen me to be a mother of a special needs child. Mason is truely a gift from God and he brings so much joy to our family.

Pinewood Derby

Haydens 2nd pinewood derby was last night. He had a hard time when his car didnt get in 1st place and then he just sat there mooping when it wasn't his turn to race. This was my first car to make. We had forgotten about the pinewood derby and when we got an email 2 days before I asked Shawn to help him make it and he wouldnt so I got out the hand saw and went to town. It wasn't to hard but I don't know the tricks of making your car go fast so we didnt place at all. Hayden got the Best Flame award which was thanks to Shawn since he painted it.

Haydens 1st 5k

Hayden and I ran the Cowtown 5k kids run Saturday Feb. 28th. It was FREEZING! It was 40 degrees and I didn't want to go because it was so cold but we were meeting up with our school. We ended up having a great time and Haydens favorite part was riding the shuttle from the parking lot to downtown where the race began.

Eventful day at West Elementary

Last Monday I walked into the front office and the phone rang. A parent asked me if the Jonas
Brothers were going to be at West Elementary today. She had heard on channel 5 news that they were going to perform at the TAKS pep rally today at West Elementary in White Settlement, Texas. I of course assured her that that wasn't true and they must of made a mistake. (For those of you who are not from Texas, TAKS is the state test that every student 3rd grade and up take for several different subjects every year and it is a BIG deal! The schools are rated by their test scores so they prepare all year long for it. The teachers put on a pep rally the day before to pump up the kids). Well our teachers put on skits and dances pertaining to doing well for the test. So evidently our districts communication spokesman had let the local TV stations know about this pep rally and in quotations said that the Jonas Brothers would be performing. Channel 5 and 11 took it literally and they agreed to come and film the pep rally thinking the Jonas Brothers would be there. Well when they announced it on TV that morning and when the school district found out, our communications spokesman informed them that that wasn't true and it was just some teachers performing to the Jonas Brothers. They were not very happy but came anyway and filmed it. That evening our school was on channel 5, 11 and 4 and we were in the Fort Worth Star Telegram the next day. We had calls all day long asking about it and I assured them it was just our staff putting on the pep rally. The TV stations knew before they got there that it wasn't the real Jonas Brothers but Channel 5 reported that they were mislead and when they got to the school thats when they found out that the real Jonas Brothers were not here. I was the one who greeted them when they came in and the news reporter joked around saying I hope you have your wigs! Its funny how the media likes to twist things just to have a good story to tell! Notice in the picture- its not the Jonas Brothers, they just danced to it but the camera crew still came!

The Cat in the Hat

Mason had his 1st grade performance on Monday Feb. 23rd. The entire 1st grade put on a Cat in the Hat little play. They sang Cat in the Hat songs and did some skits. Mason did very well. He was very cooperative and sat when he was supposed to and stood and sang too! He also had a small little part in one of the skits where he was a server and carried a upside down cake. He loved doing so much and came home with a cd of the songs and he listens to them all the time while singing and doing the hand motions to the songs. We were so proud of Mason- this time last year there was no way he could get up on stage and do what all the other children were doing. He still had a hard time sitting still and had his hands up and was wiggly but he did great!

Mason practices basketball on Mondays after school for the special olympics. Although he is to young to actual play in the basketball game during the olympics he gets to practice with them so that next year when he is old enough maybe he might actual make a basket. He wants so bad to make it through the hoop he just isn't tall enough and doesn't have the strength to get it any higher. Most of the time he will go up to an adult turn around and back up over to them, assuming they know to pick him up so he can make the basket.

Callies debut

Callie has been playing basketball for over 3 years now with the same team, the saints. Her coach is Callies friend, Eves dad and they live on the next street over. They have had the same girls together for several years. They are doing really well together but most likely this will be their last year since they will start middle school next year and hopefully play on the school teams. Here is a video of Callie making a basket. Callie is very good and defense and is always in the other teams faces trying to get the ball away from them. She usually makes about 1 basket per game. This is their last game of the season and they will start their tournement season on Saturday the 28th. Then starting the following Monday she will start volleyball.

I love it so much I had to share it with you. I want to make one for each holiday but its going to be hard to find styrofoam in other shapes. I guess I could cut it out. We'll see! Callie had several friends over the weekend I made it so I had lots of helps- this was a team effort. Everyone enjoyed making it.

The twist

For our February PTA meeting at the school I work at and Hayden attends the 3rd grade performed. Each class did several dances. Haydens class did the twist and the bunny hop. I videoed the twist so here it is. Notice towards the end Haydens stomach starts to hurt him. We also honored our life member for PTA and we choose a lady-Ms. Kitye, who had a granddaughter that used to go to West but has since moved on to intermediate school but Ms. Kitye volunteers every single day from the time the kids get to school until they go home (without taking a lunch break) since her granddaughter was in kindergarten and now she is in 6th grade. She works in the copy room all day long and copies and laminates and whatever the teachers need her to do. So we decided she would be perfect for the life member award plus she was turning 80 just a few days later so we could make it a birthday celebration too! This was all a surprise to her, we told her she needed to come to this PTA meeting to honor a teacher and we needed her help. So she came and along with several other teachers and students went up to the stage to honor the "life member" We all had a line to tell a quality about this life member. She even had a line to say (not knowing that it was her)! She was totally suprised when they announced her name for the life member. It was so cute! After we announced it we crowned her the "Xerox Queen". We had a crown for her and made her a sash. Anna ( one of our teachers aid) made it and I embrodairied "xerox queen" on it. Then we sang dancing queen to her while we circled around her on the stage. The words were changed to xerox queen along with some new lyrics about how she is the best at xeroxing. It was so fun. Hayden joined us up on stage and we have been singing xerox queen for several weeks now!

Wii Fit

I bought the Wii fit for myself with some Christmas money I had hoped I could use it on days I don't go the gym but as soon as I brought it home my children took over especially Mason. He does it everyday and loves it! Here he is doing the yoga part and notice how well he is at his comunication. We are sooo proud of him. He now answers my questions (he is still very hard to understand), communicates with words as to what he wants and he even teases us! He is saying some of the funniest things, kinda like when a 2 year old is just learning how to talk and how cute that is. I am going to have to start blogging his cute sayings so I will always remember. If you don't know Mason they won't sound so cute to you but if you do you'll know how exciting this is for us considering how long we have waited for it.

1. Shawns family has always had some really wierd sayings and they always use to say "poop in the water" (sorry Carol- I'm letting out the family secrets!). Well the other day we were eating dinner and Hayden was bothering Mason and Mason yells at him and says "shut up, poop in the water". We died! For those of you who don't know Mason- he is seven years old and is Autistic and just this past year has starting talking (communicating with us). He could say words but only if you told him to say it. I wanted to cry when he said that because it is such a milestone for him.

2. This week his teacher sent home a note asking me if Mason was afraid of death and blood. It sounds like a strange note to receive from your childs school teacher but she explained that in science class they were talking about the circulatory system and how you need blood to flow threw your body in order to live and Mason started crying. I asked him when he got home why he cried over that and he said "Ewww, thats gross!

New Years Day

For New Years Eve we spent the night at Robert and Caseys house and rang in the new year with them. The next morning Casey made us a great big breakfast and invited other friends over to join. Towards the end of our visit we went outside and Hayden thought it would be fun to jump in the pool. It wasn't that cold of a day but jumping in the pool the 1st of January in Texas is still pretty cold!

Poyfair talent show

To end our Christmas celebrations we had a Poyfair family Talent show. Everyone participated and did whatever they could. I quickly decided to sing with Mason and we sang a song I knew he would know-the ABC's, Shawn got talked into telling a story to the children (even though his talent was going to be to show off his world of warcraft characters but he couldn't get his server to work at Jasons house). Hayden counted to 20 in Japanese (learned it in his Karate class) and Callie played her clarinet even though she didn't want to- she was very shy! We also has some great acts from the rest of the family- Sara and Jason sang the theme song to cheers (their 2nd debute after "growing pains" at Danes wedding. Dane and family got all dressed up and danced to Pirates of the the Cariabean ( I have a little clip of it but I just got this camera for Christmas so obviously I didn't know how to work the video part). Grandma and Great Grandma sang and Ivy ended it with her mooning the crowd! After it was all over we applauded everyone who participated and whoever got the most applause won the talent show. Callie Rae was our winner. She was the recipient of a wonderful trophy Jason made from his old trophys as a child. He mutilated them and glued them back together to make one big Poyfair Talent Show Trophy that I'm sure we will continue this tradition for years to come and pass it on to the next winner.

Christmas with the Poyfairs

Christmas at the Poyfairs is always way over done- I grew up with a few presents thinking Santa only spent $25 per kid as I looked through the Sears Christmas catalog every year making a list with the sku #, page #, and price so Santa would get it right (per dad). Then I married into the Poyfair family!! Wow, I never knew Christmas could be so extravagant! Shawn insists that we spend just as much money on ourselves as we do the children- I agree! We had a great Christmas and got everything we wanted. The kids loved it too. We spent the morning opening gifts. Kim (Shawns sister), Mason her husband and her two children, Asher and Ruthanne stayed with us and joined us Christmas morning. After lunch we went to Sara and Jasons (another Poyfair) house and had Christmas dinner and gifts from grandparents. It was very nice to have all the family in town for Christmas. Shawn has 2 brothers and 1 sister who live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area while his brother Dane lives in Arkansas and sister Kim live in Arizona. After Christmas everyone loaded up to go to the Lake house in Tyler, Texas where their parents have a home. Callie and Hayden went with everyone while Shawn, Mason and I stayed behind since Shawn has to work. We will be going tomorrow(Monday)for his day off.

White elephant gift exchange

On Christmas Eve we went over to Shawns brother Brandons house for dinner, White elephant exchange and caroling. The whole family was there. Shawn is the oldest of 6 so it was very crowded. Everyone of his brothers and sisters is married with children ranging from 1-4 (ages 1-11, Callie being the oldest). We had a great time starting out with dinner and then we bundled up and went caroling around the neighborhood. We stopped by a few houses that Brandon and Sharee knew and left them with a Christmas mug and goodies. Then we went back to the house and had 5 rounds of white elephant. The kids started out first with Grandma and Grandpa gifts (new items). Where Callie started out with some sort of action figure or boy thing and Hayden got a baby rattle doll of some sort! They quickly stole something else and came home with spy gear for Hayden and Callie got some sort of secret door hand opener.

Hayden, Callie and Mason took it upon themselves to decorate the Christmas tree. I was downstairs doing something else and of course I hear something shatter and Hayden yells, "sorry, Mom". Oh well, at least I didn't have to decorate it! We still haven't finished decorating the house!
As you can see my boys don't beleive in wearing clothes around the house. As long as they were able to dress themselves (or not) they hate to wear anything but pants. They used to run around in just their undies for the longest time.
